The new laptop is here - the 15.4″ WS Macbook Pro! My first few minutes with OSX were excellent, and I’m quite happy with it so far. Battery life isn’t stellar but it’s a big improvement over my old laptop (~3.5 hours with normal usage, give or take), and using something that’s not Windows for a change makes a big difference. I picked up two gigs of ram for it for $85 a stick (saved $300 from Apple’s asking price for a 2GB MBP), plus my 7900GT came in (XFX, 520/1500 clocks). I’m thrilled with both of them. I upped Oblivion a notch in resolution and have HDR going again - I’m now at 1920×1200 with good settings, and CS:S is totally maxxed out, plus more playable than ever.
The MBP has some pretty capable hardware, allowing me to game fairly comfortably at the native 1440×960 in Windows (thanks to BootCamp) - Oblivion runs with HDR on and medium details (about the same as FrozenFire, but lower res and a much smaller screen), and again CS:S is more or less maxxed out. I’m tempted to give Far Cry or SC:CT a shot on the MBP too, mostly “just to see”. As it is, having had about 12 hours of sleep over the past week, I’m not in a great condition to be gaming at all, let alone replumbing FF to watercool that new card (and, of course, the M2.5 screws are the wrong size, I needed 2-56 or something). Plus I need more/new tubing, as the black Mazzer stuff I have is really meant for compression fittings and not the P&Cs (it works, but it’s really too soft to be used safely). Meh.
