Gmail POP with FON woes over?
Posted by: Eric Stern in UncategorizedBrowsing around a bit, it turns out that the DNS on the FON wireless router sucks. If you’re confused here - I’m referring to my (and, apparently, many others’) issue about not being able to get my Gmail over POP when connected to my FON.
It’s fixed!
Well, not entirely. Or, rather, automatically. I fixed it. As per some suggestions in Google Groups, I overrode the DNS servers with those of OpenDNS: primary 208.67.222.222, secondary 208.67.220.220. On my Mac, it’s in the Network PrefPane (Show->Airport, TCP/IP tab, DNS Servers, one per line). Plugged in the new numbers, got my Gmail!
If you’ve been having similar issues, give it a try. Since I’ve switched to OS X, I’m not entirely sure how to do it in Windows, but I couldn’t imagine it’s too difficult. Similar idea anyways.

Glad OpenDNS is part of the solution. http://www.opendns.com/start/ has instructions for Mac, Windows, Unix/Linux, and more.
Cheers,
